Akira was based on popular manga written by Katsuhiro Otomo in December 1982 which set many records as more than 3 million copies sold worldwide. To exploit the popularity of manga more, Katsuhiro Otomo himself directed Akira, which released in Japan in 1988 and in America in 1989. The scientists in Japan started experimenting on artificial intelligence and tried to develop a new kind of evaluation in human power by manipulating the natural powers of psychically gifted children.

Tatsuhiro may not have much motivation in life, but there's one thing he's certain of - he doesn't want his mother to force him to move back home. There is considerable character development with likable, interesting characters.
